Okay, so I've been commissioned to paint up a bunch of CAV minis, and I bought the rulebook and guides. The thing is, I know just about zero about the CAV universe, so I'm not really clear on things like paint schemes. Are there any "standard" schemes, like the kinds of things you see in the Battletech universe? Or are they more or less up to the individual?

Well, you are in luck, I am a member of the CAV Blacklightning demo group for Reaper. I do have the OLD books and there are a number of canon schemes in those as well as many faction ideas. I also have tons of other info. Let me know what kinds of forces and models you are planning on working on and I can throw the necessary info your way. There is a great deal of individual and personalized influence on the units in CAV, and is encouraged. Here is the link to about a third of my CAV painted minis, I have tons more I still need to get photographed and posted!

Sweet! Anything you can tell me would be great. The first technical guide has a section of color plates, but that's not much to go on. I'm planning on doing a Kolditz Duelist first, since it's a merc, and will do it up as an Ace since they get a little more rights to detail and customize their scheme.

Malvernis:

Heavy Mag uses a Green and Gray camo scheme
Ice Lightning uses black and Purple
Penitant Fist uses Navy and Gold

Templar: blue and white
Malvernis: green and purple
Rach: red and yellow

These are just commonly seen, not set or required in any way.

What Merc has said is correct. Those are some stuff thats been posted.

However the main thing to remember is that armor in the CAV universe has memetic nanite technology built in so a CAVs paint scheme can be changed on the fly.

Thats part of the reason we have kind of shied away from cannon schemes for units like CBT.

One of the catching points for CAV artists...complete freedom for any paint scheme!
